#FBI Director Christopher Wray discussed domestic terrorism, election security, foreign interference, and more during an interview yesterday. http://ow.ly/cj5N50AhYPW
Wray highlighted the counterintelligence and economic espionage threat posed by the Chinese government: "There’s no country that presents a broader, more comprehensive threat to America’s innovation, to our economic security, and to our democratic ideas than China."
Wray: The FBI has over 2,000 active investigations that trace back to the government of China. … That’s about a 1,300% increase in terms of economic espionage investigations with a Chinese nexus from about a decade ago.
Wray: This is not about the Chinese people or Chinese Americans. This is about the Chinese government and the Chinese Communist Party. They are pursuing a campaign of intellectual property theft, economic espionage, [and] cyber intrusions that target businesses big and small.
Wray: They do it not just through traditional government officials … but also through ... non-traditional collectors, which can be businessmen, high-level scientists, [or] high-level academics [who] steal American innovation and confidential info and take it back to China.
Wray: The FBI is opening a new counterintelligence investigation that ties back to China [about] every 10 hours.
