The National Defense Authorization Act is being considered today in the Senate.

Just happened to tune in to Bernie Sanders talking about his amendment to the NDAA to reduce the military budget by 10% and to use the 74 billion in savings to invest in distressed communities.
He has also called out the military industrial complex and the lack of auditing among defense contractors.

Please keep an eye on this bill, how your representatives vote, and whether they will actually oppose this bill when it continues our spending on endless war.
He has noted that the DOD literally does not know what to do with the money that Congress throws at them. Sanders notes that between 2013-2018, the Pentagon returned more than 80 billion in funding back to the Treasury.
Sanders also states how we need to discuss the waste, fraud, and financial mismanagement that has plagued the DOD for decades. The majority of money goes to the hands of private contractors, not troops. He states we must protect our troops.
Sanders states that every major defense contractor in the US has payed millions of dollars in fines for fraud while making huge profits.

He notes that these private companies receive 90% of their funding from taxpayers, and pay their CEOS 100x more than the Defense Sec makes.
He states that the Pentagon could not account for tens of billions in funding for reconstruction projects in war-torn countries, and found that the DOD could not account for some $800 million in construction projects.

These "nation-building" projects benefit private contractors.
Sanders closes his remarks by stating that Congress should listen to Martin Luther King, who stated that “a nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”
