The options aren’t only God as Mother or God as Father. There are more ways to Be than parental.

God is Artist and Midwife and Gardener and Healer and Storyteller. God creates and nurtures and imagines new life in hundreds of ways.

I love that Mother God is re-entering church language. But for women who aren’t mothers, for people w complicated relationships with their moms, swapping “Father” to “Mother” isn’t an end all feminist-justice move.

Use it! But use LOTS of feminine & non-gendered imagery for God.

As a woman with no children, I chafe at the idea that “feminine imagery for God” is limited to “Mother.”

There are more ways to be woman than mothering.

And there are more ways to be God than Male/Female binaries, let alone Father/Mother!

Imagine a wilder God.
