what's up richmond! as i'm sure some of y'all know, the community is facing a record number of eviction cases coming up in the next couple of weeks. what y'all may not know is that the majority of these cases are being filed by just 12 landlords. let's get to know them!
our first target is Dwell Richmond, a local arm of the Miami- and New York-based real estate development firm EquiShares, managed by brothers Mani and Matt Press. talk about outside agitators

Dwell Richmond owns the following properties on Chamberlayne Avenue and Old Brook Road. they range in size from 5-11 units to 100+ units.
their company was incorporated on October 2nd, 2018, & their registered office address is 425 W Washington St Ste 4, Suffolk, VA, 23434 - 5320, USA. their principal office address is 91 CARMAN AVE STE 500, CEDARHURST, NY, 11516 United States
the Press brothers bought most of their Richmond real estate portfolio in late 2018. their most high-profile purchase was Premier Gardens & The Flats at Ginter Park, a land parcel that has changed hands many times in the last 18 years.
the last owner, Cedar Grove Partners, was forced to sell the parcel due to multiple code violations & condemnations. when Dwell Richmond took over, they rebranded the properties under their own company name so they wouldn't be tied to that history.
but did they actually help their tenants, who had been forced to live in unlivable conditions for months, if not years? NO. in fact, they did the exact opposite. a total of 332 eviction cases have been filed by Dwell Richmond against their tenants since 2018.
let me be clear: the sharp drop in cases between 2019-2020 has nothing to do with compassion and everything to do with COVID-19 and the eviction moratorium that WE, the community, fought for.
so, to recap: an outside force came into OUR community, bought up massive amounts of property, and started trying to force OUR community members out of their homes within months of the purchase being finalized. what do we think about that, richmond?
the icing on the cake, of course, is Matt Press participating in a discussion about slumlords while being one himself. you can't make this shit up.
tune in tomorrow for info on the next mass-evicting predator! as always, #yourlandlordisnotyourfriend
