Three scenarios for Manitoba's return to school plan:
1 - back to (new) normal, but class sizes normal capacity
2 - Restricted reopening, cohort class sizes, priority for K-8, public health measures
3 - Same as now, online learning

Aug. 1 is when plan will be finalized.
Education Minister Kelvin Goertzen says he visited schools in both Brandon and Winnipeg. Says MB one of three provinces that have welcome some students back to class in June.
Here is the K-12 reopening plan for schools.

https://manitoba.ca/asset_library/en/covid/k-12-reopeningplan.pdf
Schools will reopen for teachers and staff on September 2, 2020 with students returning on
September 8, 2020.
Three scenarios, concise format:

1. In-class learning resumes for all, with near normal conditions.
2. In-class learning resumes with additional public health measures.
3. Remote learning from home, with limited use of school facilities
Massive stress will be put on not sending kids and not having staff show up to school sick.
More stuff from the plan:
School Transportation – Physical distancing and/or cohorts are also required on school
transportation

This will include 1 child per bus seat, unless two kids from same household.
Personal Risk Factors –

Arrangements will be needed for students, teachers, administrators and school staff who may be at higher risk of COVID-19 due to underlying health conditions or other
risk factors
Scenario 1 is aim, Goertzen says.
Plans could change, Roussin said. If they see a change in the situation, they will go where the evidence guides them.
Two months is a good amount of notice for parents to plan in case kids are sick, etc., Goertzen says.
prioritization will be given to core subject (math, english, etc.) — phys ed can certainly happen, but it will look differnet. This sounds like it would go with choir and band.
For parents feeling nervous, Goertzen said they are following good public health device and have been successful in doing so.
Children with health issues and families with health issues will have other options.
Expectation is kids who can go back to school will go back to school.

Will be time for more conversation on this, but kids/parents experiencing anxiety of kids going back will be expected to go back, it appears.
There will be assessment tools for sick kids/staff. A lot of it will fall on leadership of schools to monitor and make sure kids/staff aren't entering schools.
There will be additional costs to all of this, Goertzen says. They will be able to determine this better as we get closer to an opening.
Savings from spring are expected to be used in the fall. Is there an exact tradeoff? Goertzen isn't sure, but they should be able to use them to help offset increased costs this fall.
A positive case in a school is to be expected. Need to be able to live with this virus, Roussin says. Cohorting students, physical distancing there to limit spread, contacts.
Schools would be expected to hold classes for cohorts in the same room throughout the day. Depends on school. Easier to move teachers than students.
Goertzen says it's hard to know mental health impact on students. Will there be supports for students in schools? More on that later.
