There are certainly ways to achieve universal healthcare other than single payer.

The issue is that most moderate Dems that use the term “universal healthcare” are proposing systems that are not actually universal.
It’s very difficult to achieve universal coverage through a non-universal system. It’s full of waste and bureaucracy. Just like our mean tested welfare system.
Single payer would ensure that everyone has government insurance without actually nationalizing healthcare providers.
I actually think @PeteButtigieg put it best before his pivot to the center.

Single payer is the middle ground between a fully nationalized system and a fully privatized system.

It guarantees everyone coverage while leveraging the power of the free market.
It’s ludicrous to believe we can’t pay for a single payer system.

No matter what, we have to pay for healthcare. Right now you pay in a mixture of taxes, losses in wages, and out of pocket spending.
A single payer system would be nearly completely funded by taxes (maybe some small copays).

This would simply change who pays for healthcare, and the “who” is dependent on the new taxes you implement.
@adamgolden25 showed how simple it is to fund a single payer system.

Our current system is indefensible, we spend nearly $1 and $5 on healthcare. Other countries don’t spend nearly as much.
