The image of a noose is racist in the context of using it to target someone who is black. Generally speaking, a noose knot is how every hanging in the world has been done since hanging became a thing. This is an important distinction because of how fucked the discourse is now.
If I saw some Wild West-themed saloon that had a noose in it I wouldn't think that were racist considering the Wild West trope of hanging outlaws. But if someone counter-protests BLM with a noose, then there's no question as to what message that sends. Let's not abandon context.
So obviously if someone put a noose in Wallace's garage, there would be only one way to see it, but just having ropes tied that way all over the place isn't problematic. It's not like swastikas, though even that is debatable since maps still mark Buddhist temples with swastikas.
It just feels like everyone is so invested in the existence of evil in society that it's hard for them to accept that sometimes it just doesn't exist where they happen to be looking at that moment.
Adding to this thread. Again I don't understand how this lines up with old images and video going around and with Bubba's admission yesterday that this wasn't a story. Is this NASCAR doing damage control? Justifying their reaction? https://twitter.com/MartySmithESPN/status/1276194402302640129
