A (potentially controversial) thread about our beloved Sheffield United...

This dip in form is the best thing that could’ve happened to us.
Under Chris Wilder we’ve seen the most rapid rise in not only league position, but overall quality, in my lifetime.

Under Chris Wilder we’ve seen the most rapid rise in not only league position, but overall quality, in my lifetime.
Aside from a slight fade during our first season back in the Championship (heavily impacted by Paul Coutts’ leg break) - CW has guided us to two promotions and undoubtedly improved the team year on year, through careful, considered recruitment of fantastic leaders and characters
Pre-season, every single Blade would’ve taken 17th in the Prem. Every one of us. But again, Wilder and the boys hugely overachieved, and with 10 games to go we were riding our amazing momentum and in with a chance of a potential European spot
Enter, COVID-19. Our Bladesmen return and let’s be fair, don’t perform. Certainly not to the levels we’ve been used to this season-but have we been spoiled?
The slower pace of these games lend themselves so much more to a more technical (and in all honesty) higher quality player

That’s not us folks. We’re built on fitness, determination, togetherness-clever sequences built on the training ground and drilled in to a team unit full of character and guile-roared on by a packed house that inspires them to push on.
Were we ready for Europe? No chance!!

That doesn’t mean we didn’t want it or didn’t try, or wouldn’t have taken it-we would have... but we haven’t got the squad to cope with a European campaign alongside securing Prem survival, not close. Not in size or quality
Have the players switched off subconsciously? We are safe after all. Is it hard to get motivated after a long layoff? I’d argue against that-I bet CW would too. This is where Wilder gets to see who’s got the bottle to fight for a shirt. He’ll learn more about them now than ever
Which brings me to my final (rather selfish) point. We know what we’ve got in Wilder. He’s the greatest manager to ever lead the Club-but there’ll be ill informed critics at the minute who may now be questioning him as a top drawer manager. Even a minority of our own are doing it
Well let them carry on. I want this man in charge for the next 20 years. One day he will move on and we’ll be in unbelievably better shape for him having been here, but if blips like this knock him out the running for the Man U or England jobs-then more fool them-we’ll keep him!!
