A lot of people have criticized Trump's response to #COVID19 and there are legitimate criticisms. But there is this idea that if Democrats were in power everything would have been fine. I think the actions of the Democrats tell a different story. 1/
On Jan 2020 Trump enacted travel restrictions on China. High profile Dems like @SpeakerPelosi and @JoeBiden along with many media outlets claimed this was just a political stunt by Trump to play to his xenophobic base. 2/
At the same time Pelosi and @BilldeBlasio actually encouraged people to go out to large gatherings. To show, as they saw it, that Trump was just being xenophobic. 3/
This has led me to 1 of to 2 conclusions. 1, The Dems didn't understand or believe the threats of Covid which would have led to an even slower response had they have been in power. 4/
Or conclusion 2, Dems fully understood the risk of Covid but decided to play poltical games to score points against Trump. Putting thousands of people at risk all to make Trump look bad. 5/
Moving onto NY. @NYGovCuomo claimed that his state would need 40k ventilators. They ended up using far less. That's not a criticism of him. He was doing what he thought best for his people. It's the response to the ventilator request that is the issue. 6/
The left demanded Trump send NY the 40k ventilators and if he didn't he didn't care that people would die. The Administration instead provided ventilators to states as they were needed. That makes more sense. 7/
If you stockpile all the ventilators in one State because they may need them in a few weeks it limits the ability of other States to get them that might need them now. 8/
This leads me to the conclusion, if Dems were in power they would have sent every ventilator that came off the line to NY. Leaving the other States without access to federally produced ventilators. 9/
Speaking of ventilators let's talk about the private companies producing them and PPE. The Dems said that Trump should have invoked the Defense Production Act to force private companies to produce PPE. 10/
Instead Trump talked to the companies and they agreed to produce PPE on their own. There was no need to use government force. Then Trump used the Defense Production Act to keep meat processing plants open and the Dems said that was wrong because he's putting workers at risk. 11/
This leads me to the conclusion that if Dems were in power they would have immediately used Govt force even when it wasn't needed for PPE, but wouldn't have to keep the food chain intact. Resulting in everyone having a mask but not everyone having access to food. 12/
There's a lot of talk about the failures of the Administration when it comes to proper testing and that talk is valid. More widespread testing, antibody testing, and contract testing is needed, but do the Dems really care about proper testing? 13/
Recently we've seen stories of @BilldeBlasio instructing those preforming contact tracing to not ask patients if they attended any of the BLM protests. Tactics like this have led to reporting that going to a restaurant poses more of a risk than thousands of people gathering. 14/
A county in Oregon implemented a mask order (has scene been dropped due to criticism) that states POC were exempt from wearing masks. 15/
Actions like these have led to confusion and at best calls of incompetence and hypocrisy and at worst, claims that Covid is a hoax. 16/
This has all led me to conclude that if Dems were in power there'd been a slower response, allocation of supplies mishandled, abuses of federal power, disruption in food supply, and (even more) dangerous confusing misinformation.
