Light bulb moment
Clients are increasingly asking for proactive legal/business solutions. However the service model (hourly billing/cost plus), the default in almost all law firms, is inherently a reactive model. “Tell me what you need and I’ll get the work done.” 1/

Firms can certainly try to build more proactive services, but from the jump it’s reactive. OTH a product model is an inherently proactive model. 2/
Generally with products you educate yourself on the market and then “place bets” on the products you think will be successful, i.e. valuable to a large portion of the market. 3/
This may be a large reason many law firms struggle to meet proactive clients needs. Both models are needed, but trying to be proactive within an inherently reactive business model seems unnecessarily difficult. 4/4
