Very happy to see our take in the @IndJMedEthics against the use of war metaphors in the context of #Covid_19 with co-authors @AnantBhan @divyarrs and @DLBOse ,in print. Thanks Dr Pathare @netshrink for being an excellent guide.

While we recognize the reasons for the “war” metaphor being the go-to option for framing the response to the pandemic, we highlight how its percolation through the societal psyche is damaging social cohesion - a key domain of social determinant of health. (2)
We highlight how Healthcare Professionals themselves have internalized the “war” metaphor, to their own detriment and that of their patients, and how this battle rhetoric has led to the acceptability of collateral damage in the form of non-Covid care that stands neglected. (3)
We suggest alternative metaphors drawn from sports and ecology. It is important to use gentler metaphors that emphasize a dynamicity of response, teamwork along with solidarity and cooperation at multiple levels. (4)
As India enters Unlock 1.0, it “signals a subtle acceptance that #Covid_19 was never a war to be fought in the first place.” (5/5)
