For those of you playing along at home, the new FAQs released by the NCBLE re: holding the bar in person during a global pandemic. Following @NC_Governor announcement to extend Phase 2: doesn't matter. Bar exam exempt from max gathering restriction. https://www.ncble.org/faqs_july_2020_north_carolina_bar_examination
"Any applicant who is concerned about attending the examination due to COVID-19 may, upon request, withdraw his or her application and transfer the application fee to February 2021 without penalty."
This just points to how great a power disparity there is in this decision. To ask GRADUATES who already have law degrees to potentially choose between their health and their careers (WHICH THEY ARE ALREADY TRAINED FOR) is abhorrent.
And if the powers that be (some of whom have not even taken a bar exam http://www.ncbex.org/news/judith-gundersen-ncbe-president-ceo/#:~:text=MADISON%2C%20WI%20 whoops!)
still demand we have a bar exam, fine, whatever. We are not advocating for a change to try and get out of it. We're saying THERE ARE BETTER ALTERNATIVES AVAILABLE
Have it online! Get more space (lord knows there are empty buildings/office spaces rn) to have smaller groups! Even *gasps* consider Diploma Privilege!

NC law schools have offered to provide space and proctors. Immediately shot down.
There's no way to spin this.

To say the exam has to be held in person "to preserve the integrity of the test" is the same thing as saying "this test is more valuable than you or your health."
We want to be lawyers. We want to do good. We want to be safe.

This is a global pandemic. And we want to help. Give us the ability to do so.
