Hi. As someone who feels more at home backstage, this is nerve-wracking. If you have any questions, or want to share your lockdown theatre tech experiences, follow me or get me on here.
For context, the last time I was doing a show, dress rehearsals looked like this...
For context, the last time I was doing a show, dress rehearsals looked like this...
But this has been my venue this week. No ladders to climb, no vans to drive and no jostling for Truss position between the Lighting and Sound departments. My primary concern is desk space. #ProductionManagerInLockdown
Tech and Dress rehearsals for @Razecollective’s #RazedAndConfusedGoDigital have been a voyage of discovery. The production team’s only means of in-rehearsal communication has been a WhatsApp group, and broadband speed has become the only thing I think about. Night and day.
No one else at home is allowed to use the Wi-fi.

We’re working with @Razecollective this week to present Razed and Confused Goes Digital, an online Queer Cabaret night, showcasing work from four amazing artists. Info and tickets are available here... https://www.outsavvy.com/event/4649/razed-and-confuzed-goes-digital-tickets
Because they haven’t been able to grace the cabaret stages during lockdown, the artists have turned their talents to video. Our event showcases their work together with a live host beamed in via web-link, and broadcasts to the world on our new digital space, Us In The Making.
And terrifyingly, broadcast HQ is a little corner of my living room.
When it’s sunny outside, my home workspace is just as hot as the hottest theatre control booths I’ve ever been in. And there’s something weirdly comforting about that.
If anyone wants to share their favourite theatre control booth, I’m all ears. Bonus points for sweltering heat and restricted views of the stage.
Doing shows online has been, and will continue to be a MASSIVE LEARNING CURVE for me.
