We failed. Xi jettisoned this experiment by backsliding on commercial law & property rights, subjecting Tibet & Uighurs to unimaginable agonies, & now dismantling democracy in Hong Kong -- while taking a corrupt, highly repressive state media & surveillance machine global. 2/3
It is deeply disturbing to see some Canadian leaders advocating for this agenda: in the era of Putin & Xi, they are channelling the monstrous legacies of Hitler, Mao & Stalin -- each of whom mocked justice as a bag of worthless trinkets, easily erased by fear & violence. 3/3
Without containment, what would the USSR have become? Without strong sanctions, courageous Ukrainian soldiers & military deterrence by NATO allies, what might Putin have done to his principal European neighbour, or elsewhere? We must now ask such questions about China. PS/1
By having China's 'hostage diplomacy' endorsed by a well-funded chorus of useful idiots right here in Canada, Xi & his misguided minions seek to undo our sovereignty, our justice institutions & our national interest. To such truculence there can be only one right answer. END
