is an example of cultural imperialism, a form of neocolonialism. Many antis engage in neocolonist behavior by imposing western moral standards and seeking to exert control and censorship over fans (including Asian fans) in Asian fandoms
which leads to demonization and harassment of queer Asians in BL fandoms. This takes away safe spaces of queer Asians, for whom BL fandom may be one of the only ways to safely and anonymously express their queerness in homophobic home societies.
Neocolonization of queer Asian fandoms is thus distressing, harmful, and a source of minority stress for queer Asians in BL fandom. That’s why they may use “colonizer” against antis who refuse to listen and spread harmful misinformation in what SHOULD have been THEIR safe space.

You’re Asian-American. Sorry you have to deal with racism. But did you ever have to deal with the after-effects of colonization the way we did? Do you have to live in poverty, suffer poor quality of education, insufficient provision of public services, unemployment, sickness,
while trade agreements and debt obligations that were locked in decades ago CONTINUE to keep our countries locked in poverty, IP laws keep life-saving technologies out of our grasp, and western liberal democracies continue to benefit off our cheap labor and goods?
Do you have to live in “rich” tax havens, where impoverished Asian countries were forced to become tax havens to attract foreign capital, only to become shitholes of inequality where large percentage of locals are poor and taxed, while MNCs profit endlessly off tax exemptions?
BY VIRTUE OF LIVING IN A WESTERN DEMOCRACY, you are benefiting from global inequality and neocolonialism. We’re ALREADY SICK OF YOU PEOPLE BEING ASSHOLES IN THE GLOBAL ECONOMY, is it SO MUCH TO ASK that you STOP being assholes in fandoms, policing us in our own safe spaces?
If I see an apple, I’ll call it an apple. If I see a colonizer, I WILL CALL YOU A COLONIZER. If there are disagreements about whether “colonizer” should be used in context of cultural imperialism in fandom, then that’s a discussion for Asians living in Asia, NOT you.
