I'm a bit obsessed with Corporate Memphis at the moment. It's that very flat style of illustration you see EVERYWHERE - all bendy arms, stuff built out of shapes, featureless faces. Stuff like this.
There's a few drivers behind it:
1. It's cheap. Banging out this stuff just requires a few trendy palettes and not much else.
2. It's very easy to turn into animation with minimal time/effort.
3. Illustrator. Everyone uses it and it militates towards flat, solid geometry.

Most of all though, it's just so painfully safe that no-one needs to think too hard about anything. It's just a big, fat tick in the 'Non-Threatening, On-Your-Side, Look-What-Fun-We-Have, Silicon Valley Mega Corp box.
Look! Bendy arms! Who can be upset by bendy arms?
