Poor work from the Indy in its Maxine Peake interview. She makes the claim Israelis taught American cops the technique that killed George Floyd. The Indy then cites an @amnestyusa report as supporting evidence but the doesn't report doesn't back up Peake's claim
Jewish Voice For Peace, which is very critical of Israel and opposes the Occupation of the West Bank, said: 'Suggesting Israel is the start or source of American police violence shifts the blame from the United States to Israel. It also furthers an antisemitic ideology'
It doesn't surprise me that Peake says it. What disappoints me is the Indy makes a cursory note of a denial and then cites a report as if it supports Peake's claim. It doesn't and the copy clearly implies the denial is incorrect
Journalism's silos are showing here. It's easier to make a remark about Israel that furthers antisemitism, according to @jvplive, in an interview for the Arts section where politics tend to be cited only as background, too secondary to be seriously considered
And at a time when we're increasingly viewing art in the context of the artist's life and views, that's a great shame
Oh and it's a particular shame when the ones gleefully tweeting the piece are politicians https://twitter.com/RLong_Bailey/status/1276078311215677440
Also it's a LOL from me re this headline. I'm also pretty sure the people who couldn't vote Labour because of Corbyn voted Tory
This is good on the use of this AI report to imply a claim is correct when in fact it doesn't address the claim https://twitter.com/JeremyDuns/status/1276106416462364673
