Born #otd in 1882: Seán T. O'Kelly, second president of Ireland. While his state birth record gives his date of birth as 25 August 1882, his baptismal record – a more contemporaneous source – states he was born on 25 June 1882.
Late registration (after 21 days after the birth) resulted in the imposition of a fine. Hence, in order to avoid the payment of a fine, later birth and death dates were often provided to the registrar. Seán T.'s birth was registered on 25 October 1882 by his mother.
However, both baptismal and birth records agree on one point: his place of birth. Seán T. O'Kelly was born at 55 Lower Wellington Street, Dublin. Hopefully, with this information, the @DIB_RIA can correct his date and place of birth in its profile of him.
