Our theatre industry is run by the elite and caters to the rich, and they wonder why there's no bailout?

Maybe we should've built an industry accessible to all and then they would be our champions.

The public doesn't care about us because the industry never cared about them.
The fact there is no public clamour or demand to save an industry that is hanging by its fingernails shows how much theatre has failed at reaching communities.
I didn't really go to the theatre until I was in my 30s. You think I would've cared if they all disappeared overnight?

Nope. Because I never saw theatre as a place for someone like me.

That's the perception.

That's the industry we built. One that is alien and unwelcoming.
