As a GP and resident of a #COVID19Aus hotspot and Muslim community member, I'd like to say something:
1. Victorian restrictions relaxed just before the weekend of Eid. I was surprised about this, but so GLAD to see my parents after Ramadan. We visited them. As we were allowed.
3. I am disappointed by the media beat-up around racial groups. We know snipiness sells stories - but THIS sort of reporting is why community groups don't trust journalists. Please remember this is the #kindnesspandemic. Most new cases are in low SES areas, where life is hard.
4. In retrospect, we came out of lockdown while there was still community spread. So new cases were always going to pop up. The idea was that we could test extensively to contain spread. DHHS Victoria have been so impressive rolling this out.
5. As my colleagues and I have always said: To my patients, to my family, to my friends. Do the right thing. Stay home, stay safe. Follow the official advice: it will evolve. And if you are symptomatic, get tested. For all our sakes.
