I’ve seen many companies think about UX late. Then attempt to fix it. Not understanding that the problem stemmed from something even more important in the stage of awareness of the product. Start at the root, and the rest will follow.

If you wonder why UX isn’t valued or has a seat at the table, listen to this explanation.
You were called in, to fix a broken femur, the problem presented was a small leg abrasion. So you placed a bandaid on the leg and called it a day.
Professionally, your fix was a failure.
So what’s a better aproach?
Be a professional by pointing out the broken femur. Take x-rays. Call it out. And more importantly—stop perpetuating the idea that we are just UI polishers. We are not. We are problem solvers.
Your value is under a microscope.
Start showing value by turning down bandaid jobs and start searching for the root problems.
Know that sometimes, UX will be changing how an organization thinks, and not just wireframes or product design.
I know youre cynical about UX and change management. But that’s because it’s a UX leadership role, not an individual contributor function. Nevertheless, UX is positioned to lead it. Are you willing to step up, is the question.
Leadership is not management.
Management is not IC work.
Our community lacks strong leadership and that’s why it’s failing.
