Today I learned a new term, Indigenous Erasure. It was substituted for Anti-Indigenous Racism and quite frankly I think it hits home. People can still be racist but it’s the systemic goal to erase Indigenous People. It is a continuing trend starting with the Indian Act, through
Residential Schools, The 60s Scoop, MMIWG and the justice system. It’s the shooting of Indigenous people in New Brunswick to the pipelines that travel through our lands. It’s seeing a letter written to an Indigenous Activist that clarifies the idea that people think of us last
when inviting groups to the table and that stereotypes and prejudices still remain. Indigenous Erasure, put it in your lexicon and your curriculum and your lessons. ✌🏼&❤️
