1/7 When the senate adjourned last week on Juneteenth, they cited that they wanted to address accountability for all public employees, not just police officers. They specifically referenced teachers as an example while addressing arbitration reform.
3/7 Teachers are held to a higher moral standard and are constantly held accountable when they violate their code of ethics. In or outside of the classroom.
4/7 Their licensing board consists of teachers and other professionals that take their role seriously. They believe that a bad teacher is not good for students or fellow good teachers.
5/7 There has been a lot of discussion around the effectiveness of the arbitration process. It’s clear to me after reading this article that the POST Board that licenses police officers needs to become more active in taking licenses away from bad acting officers.
6/7 Without their license these officers cannot move on to other cities or come back to the city they’ve been fired from. I believe that should be a primary function of the POST Board. It giveth and it should taketh away when the officer violates their oath.
7/7 “The standard … should not merely be that the person has not been convicted of a serious crime,” he said. “If anything, the standard ought to be stricter for someone with the power to arrest and search and use force.”
