There are people who have seen the true highs and lows of Liverpool Football Club.
I have only supported them for 13 years, nevertheless I'd like to talk a bit of my 'journey' supporting them until this present moment.

I remember properly watching Liverpool 'religiously' from around 8 years old in year 5. It was the 2008/9 season. That season sold me dreams. Challenging for both domestic and European titles, I thought it would occur every season.
I couldn't have been more wrong.

We only lost twice that year. But we never had that cutting edge that United had. Their depth in attack was so much more better than ours.
Benitez made a fatal mistake in mismanaging Keane, who would've been so much more useful for us.

We partook in some really iconic games that season. The 4-0 v Real Madrid. The 4-1 v Man Utd. Heck, even the 4-4 (and 7-5 aggregate) v Chelsea, too.
We could've ended the season with a historic double, but alas no silverware.
Go again next year, with some new recruits.

In year 6 came the 2009/10 season.
After coming so close last year, I thought we'd kick on. In reality, the wheels were coming off.
Benitez had this weird fetish for Barry. He mistreated Alonso and he was sold, to be replaced by Aquilani.
It looked shrewd...

He was acquired with an injury, and under the premise that he'd play a holding role that Alonso played. It wasn't his real position. The tactical change and recurring ankle injury meant he struggled massively, and barely played.
In terms of on the field performance, Liverpool fell off massively, and showed glimpses of how much of a joke they were to become. This included the famous "balloon goal" and losing to the worst side in the league in Portsmouth.
It was also the beginning of the end of Torres at Liverpool. He was often rushed back from injuries, including a knee injury at the end of the summer, with the World Cup in 2010 in mind.
In the league, we were consistently inconsistent. For instance, beating United 2-0 but losing 3-1 to Fulham just 6 days later. We finished seventh, failing to qualify for the UCL for the first time since 2002/03.
An average position for an average team, plagued w problems.

We did have a decent Europa League final run, however. Whispers of silverware were quickly silenced as Forlan scored in extra time in the Europa League semi-final.
It would've set up an all English final against Fulham in the new revamped format of the UEFA Cup.

Incredibly, as I entered secondary school and year 7, Liverpool got worse. With the 2010/11 season, the cowboy owners sacked our UCL winner for a Danish league winner, in the shape of Roy Hodgson.
Every Liverpool fan wants to erase this guy's tenure from their memory.

Liverpool weren't on the downward spiral. They were in football hell.
It got so bad that I vividly remember my brother telling me to buy a new PE bag, instead of a LFC one.
Hodgson signed players not fit to wear the shirt: Poulsen, Konchesky (don't tell his mum I said this)

... and Milan Jovanovic. I will never forget this guy's mistimed header v Arsenal. He fell flat on his face FFS.
Losses against Northampton, Blackpool and Blackburn meant the Hodge was finally out the door.
I was eleven and DEPRESSED.

Fans were calling for his name after Benitez was sacked. And he finally arrived in January 2011. King Kenny had arrived.
Performances had improved, but Dalglish's managerial skills were put to the test in the shape of Torres who was adamant he needed to leave.

And so he did, to Chelsea, and thus breaking many (including mine) Liverpool fan's hearts.
Personally, I remember watching SSN with my dad who'd just come back from work, and I was distraught. I genuinely thought that we'd get relegated, we were struggling so much.

But in came Luis Suarez. A player that was brought in to partner Torres, and ended up being a player who dragged Liverpool to relevancy until his departure 4 and a half years later.
Between the summer of 2009 and late 2010, off the field, things were looking even worse.
It is startling to think that Liverpool were on the brink of administration now, but, at the turn of the decade this was the case. Thanks to these two twats.

The owners were so out of touch that Gillett even offered to get Benitez "whoever we get in the draft".
ÂŁ30M went on paying debts/year.

Their last appointment was Hodgson.
Cheers for that.

I can't lie. I knew NOTHING about finances, as I was just 12 years old. But I did remember reading about leaked emails, between John Henry and other FSG execs.
One thing resonated. Liverpool were run in the 'dark ages'. We were run shit, and playing shit.

After a disastrous start to the 2010-11 campaign, Dalglish aimed to get us back on track. There were quite a few memorable games in this season, particularly after Torres left.
The Spaniard's debut at Chelsea was against his former team. No joy for him, following a 1-0 defeat.

In a season that seriously threatened relegation, Dalgish did manage to steady the ship. 6 wins from the last 10 games ensured King Kenny would remain as Liverpool's manager for the upcoming 2011-12 season.
Within those last ten games included the victory over Man United, with an inspirational Luis Suarez causing absolute chaos. It was only a few months into his Liverpool career, but he was already showing the talent he possessed.
It was also a few days after King Kenny's birthday, and so the Kop sang a happy birthday song to him. A great present for him.
I remember my dad, although being an Arsenal fan himself, talking about Dalglish and telling me how good he was as a player.

My dad told me about how Dalglish was as a man too. He told me that when the Hillsborough tragedy took place, King Kenny ensured that LFC representatives were there. He is a football legend but also did so much for the City of Liverpool. Truly deserving of his knighthood.
Liverpool finished 6th. Remarkably, 5 points less than the previous season, but a position higher.
Two back-to-back mediocre finishes in the league, and it had to be said, I was unfortunately getting used to us being absolutely bang average.

It was the period of DoFs really rising to prominence in the public eye too. Our DoF, at the time, was very vocal.
I remember reading about Damien Comolli bringing in Modric and Berbatov to Spurs. We got Charlie fecking Adam and Stewart 'I love hitting the crossbar' Downing.

This buy British approach meant that Liverpool were unable to improve on their position from last season, and again another average season beckoned. We did beat Arsenal at their ground for the first time in 11 years though. This game featured Meireles swearing. Why???? Who knows.
Another season of real inconsistency and some banterous results. We lost to fucking Spurs 4-0 ffs, and we had two red cards.
I was getting corned by Arsenal fans at school, that's how bad it got.

It was nice to beat Cardiff in the Carling Cup. It was our first trophy in 6 years. It was a lose - lose situation for me though: If we lost I'd get bantered for it, and if we had won 'it was only Cardiff'. I remember celebrating it for like 2 hours after the game, at most.
We also ended up being in the FA Cup final, following wins over Man United, Stoke and Everton in the semis.
We were so close to equalising in that game, but Chelsea had way more quality than us and deserved to win.

The Carling Cup was not enough for Liverpool's new apparently ambitious owners, and so King Kenny was sacked as Liverpool manager. "Results in the Premier League have been disappointing and to build on the progress that has been made, we need to make a change,"
