One interesting comparison between STEM people in India & USA is that USA STEM folks are predominantly anti-right wing(culture). I havent seen even a single STEM person from Bay area supporting Trump. But Indian STEM people in India are predominantly pro-right wing(culture) https://twitter.com/chamath/status/1275914705026990082
SF Bay area voted for Dems always from 1960, the only two times it voted for Republican Presidents was when they were Californians(Nixon in 72 & Reagan in 80). California is even considered a Blue wall state (voted for Dem President candidate from 1992 - 2016 without fail)
This can be attributed to the fact that tech & educated areas in USA are hotbeds of liberal/Capitalistic politics. They hate the pseudo-science language of Church loving Republicans while appreciating the liberal, free trade & capitalistic policies of Democrats(not Bernie Sanders)
It is even parodied in Silicon Valley series where Bay people are super cool & appreciative when others identify themselves as gays but the words "Christians & Church freaks out people in Bay Area" in the words of Monica. Watch from 1:12 to 2:30
But Indian STEM folks are completely the opposite. Most STEM folks are pro-right wing (Culture) even with the pesudo-science language of right wing ranging from claims of Patanjali's COVID cure to Internet/airplanes in Mahabharat. A partial list of claims https://caravanmagazine.in/science/false-scientific-claims-modi-first-term
Manmohan's govt(91-96 & 04-09 specially) was the closest India got to an economic right. Liberalization, civilian nuclear trade, free trade was his govt's main focus although negatives like corruption exist. https://twitter.com/balajis/status/1267093354610749440
Indian STEM folks benefited mostly from such policies but most support a govt that is reversing most free trade practices from 2014 & is principally against liberalization (Swadeshi Jagran Manch-right wing by culture, left wing by economy).South Indian STEM folks are exception
Why do you think its the case in India? Would love to hear diverse views/opinions on this @vikramadhiman @prasanna_says @ptrmadurai @srijancse @MirajVora @shrinivassg @rbhar90 @digitaldutta @NilChristopher
