BREAKING: @charlesallen, @AnitaBondsDC, @marycheh, & @VinceGrayWard7 are preparing to vote tmrw afternoon for a @DCPoliceDept budget that divests <3% of the department’s $½ bil budget, far less than what many are calling for. Here’s what we're seeing in draft doc (THREAD) 1/

Initial draft takes $9.6-$15.1mil out of MPD’s budget and fully reverses cuts to community-based violence interruption programs, like @ONSEDC_, The #PathwaysProgram, @AGKarlRacine, @Curethestreets 2/

This move also restores cuts to important trauma informed care programs, and in many cases expands those programs. i.e. there is an $9mil+ expansion to @OVSJG_DC which supports victims and their families 3/

@dc_ecc and others called for large reinvestments in affordable housing. This proposal gives only $500k for affordable housing programs, and $4.5mil for legal support for tenants 4/

However, while this divestment is a good start, it is far less than what many have called for, and is at most around 3% of MPD’s $500mil+ budget 5/

@dc_ecc and many others called for $2.5mil to come out of MPD’s budget to build a Safe Passage Program for DC students. This doc shows no reinvestment from MPD’s budget for such a program 6/
