as one of the biggest streamers in all of gaming and on Twitch if your first comment on social after a week of ~100 women coming forward with stories of sexual assault, harassment, and misconduct is to say this, maybe it's better you say nothing at all https://twitter.com/summit1g/status/1275878825037987840
in fairness to summit, i deleted the initial tweet and went back to listen to his longer thoughts on stream first. my thoughts remains unchanged
twitter is inherently not great to have discussions on serious topics such as sexual assault or racial issues, and there is legitimate concern of mob mentality 'cancellation'. however social media gives a voice to marginalized people and those who would not be heard otherwise
twitter has given a platform to women to tell their stories that would be impossible without it
do people on here rush to cancel others without hearing the other side? yes. are there men who get falsely accused? yup. but this fails in comparison to the truth that is being told

saying 'innocent until proven guilty' as a hundred different women open up about their traumatic experiences for the first time is like saying 'all lives matter'. you're not wrong per se but you're missing the point entirely and also just kind of an asshole
you don't have to virtue signal 'believe women' ad nauseam on social media to show solidarity with women who have the courage to speak out, and you can support men for a fair trial of public opinion without insinuating that the women are lying with the intent to ruin men's lives
(and yes i am speaking from this at a women to men perspective but of course the LBGTQ community have these same problems which can be much worse in situations and men are also quite often victims of sexual harassment+assault which isn't spoken nearly about as much)
i don't necessarily think that celebrities or influencers or streamers have a responsibility for speaking out about political, social or cultural issues, but if you do say something make it worthwhile. be honest sure but take the time to understand that your words have power
i know you'd rather discuss this in private DMs @summit1g but i believe for the best interest of the gaming community that this is done in public, to everyone, and i hope i gave some perspective. summit is good people and said he was open to listening and that's what matters most
*fails in comparison should be pales in comparison. may as well delete the whole thread now rip
