(I have cropped out the direct contact info for the police officer who filed the "threat assessment" request.)

2/
Who did the @SJSU police sergeant make the request to?

The file says "NCRICAnalyticalSupportLE."

NCRIC = Northern California Regional Intelligence Center

3/

https://ncric.ca.gov
Why was I named in this police intelligence request?

Because together with allies, my org @FreedomForward sent letters saying that a San Jose #USOpen tennis tournament should stop taking dictator dollars.

The #USOpen Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic:

Yup. You read that right.

We said that a #USOpen tennis tournament shouldn't be funded by a dictator ...

... and so a @SJSU police officer asked an intelligence center for information on us.

5/
The dictatorship is the United Arab Emirates monarchy.

And @Mubadala is a wealth fund of the UAE.

That's why it is called the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic -- or #MubadalaSVC / @MubadalaSVC

The UAE monarchy spends on sports to hide their slaughter of thousands in Yemen.

6/
It wasn't just me in that file.

The @SJSU police sergeant Justin Celano asked for info on everyone who signed the letter:

@FreedomForward
@Avaaz
@CODEPINK
@HassanElTayyab
Shireen Al-Adeimi @shireen818
@Jehan_Hakim + the Yemeni Alliance Committee

7/
All of us are advocates for human rights, freedom, peace, and a better U.S. foreign policy that doesn't consider dictators to be our "friends."

@SJSU police wanted info on us, including Muslim, Arab, and Yemeni signers of the letter.

cc: @CAIRSFBA @AROCBayArea

9/
And we tagged San Jose State University @SJSU -- the host of the dictator's #USOpen -- in a Facebook post.

12/
But instead of investigating the dictatorship that is funding their tennis tournament, it looks like @SJSU decided to use their police funding to investigate us.

13/
Meanwhile, the monarchies that rule the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia have bombed thousands of civilians across Yemen.

And both the Obama and Trump administrations have sold them billions of dollars in bombs along the way. 14/
As an aside, one crazy thing about this is that I used to work in San Jose -- as the @ACLU_NorCal San Jose director.

I used to push San Jose police to reform their police practices. I never expected to be the object of a @SJSU police "threat assessment" request.

15/
The bottom line is that no one should be taking UAE @Emirates or Saudi money for their sports events, not while these monarchies slaughter thousands.

16/
And the Council on American Islamic Relations @CAIRNational also endorsed the campaign and joined the letters.

Far too many Muslim and Arab advocates for political reform have been silenced or imprisoned by the UAE dictatorship.

18/
But instead of reviewing their #USOpen dictator sponsor, San Jose State University police asked a regional intelligence agency for information on us.

19/
Muslim, Arab, Yemeni and allied peace advocates should be able to send a letter criticizing #DictatorDollars and #USOpen without being reviewed or investigated by police or intelligence.

20/
There is a long history in the U.S. of law enforcement seeing peaceful human rights advocates as potential "threats" to be "assessed."

(Or neutralized.)

See: COINTELPRO

21/
In this time of massive #BlackLivesMatter protests against police brutality, #BlueLeaks is yet another reminder of how police funds are wasted and misused to investigate those who peacefully advocate and organize for a better world.

22/
We are advocates for democracy, human rights and peace.

Like many Americans, we don't think the U.S. should be allied with the monarchies that rule Saudi Arabia or the UAE.

We aren't a threat.

We are a part of the solution. 21/
One correction -- I learned about this Tuesday morning. I wrote "this morning" up above.
