If you're a major soccer league/competition, you shouldn't be trying to cash in an extra $20 million. That's nothing. You should be trying to make your property a major part of the sporting fabric so it can be worth hundreds of millions per year. That requires long-term thinking.
The Bundesliga sold rights to Fox for over 80 countries in one deal! Some countries' Fox networks got stuck with something they didn't want or didn't know how to maximize.

If you're a league/competition, you need a TV partner that will give you visibility, market your product, can produce shoulder content, has a digital strategy and will make the public believe your games are a massive deal. That matters more than $20m.
It's not easy to find the right TV partner, and it's not easy for a TV partner to maximize the product so they are good stewards of the leagues they're paying a lot of money for, but that's crucial to both sides.
