the concept & language of ~mental health~ is very strange to me, because i am always going to be mad

a while ago i said this to a friend & they told me “not necessarily! don’t be pessimistic”

& i said, “no, really— i will always be mental and i have found my peace here” [1/?]
i have been entrenched in madness for my entire life

i cannot think of a single relative who has not experienced mental illness or addiction

my experiences w/ my family are a large part of why i exist in the way i do, but that’s maybe a bit much for a wednesday evening [2/?]
in a similar vein, my reasons for being an abolitionist are, like many others, deeply linked to my own experiences of madness

if you have never been detained against your will while mentally ill, then i’d posit that it is likely you will never truly understand why this is [3/?]
psychiatry is inherently carceral & the psychiatric system/prison industrial complex work to sustain each other (rly they are one in the same)

if you do not have experience with the violence enacted by psychiatry then i implore you to listen to mad people first & foremost [4/?]
recovery as a concept must to be reformed/restructured/reimagined

recovery as defined currently is impossible for most of us because we exist at precarious intersections of poverty/race/gender/sexuality/trauma &c. [5/7]
this really turned into a lot of mixed up thoughts synthesising into one place (what can i say, my brain is broken!)

but essentially the point is:

1. abolish psychiatry & all carceral systems
2. listen to mad people
3. let us be mad [7/?]
