. @abcnews decision to axe the flagship 0745 radio bulletin has riled listeners in regional Australia. "We don't have good NBN , we don't necessarily have good mobile phone coverage so the ABC radio news is the one thing we can rely on no matter what," says @JennyJenocon @withMEAA
. @JennyJenocon tells AM, "This is a bit sacred to us so of all the things they would cut, the decision to cut that news bulletin is just extraordinary and I think it will make people really angry." #abccuts
Want a case in point? On Anzac Day Sat April 25 @abcnews dropped the 0745 radio news bulletin. Our talkback lines at ABC Gippsland LIT UP with complaints. And that was one bulletin on one day. @withMEAA #abccuts
Paul from Mt Beauty says "The notion that all will be OK because ABC programs or services can go to the digital platform is a nonsense. Regional listeners, where internet connections are at times dodgy and others non-existent are therefore excluded."
Paul from Mt Beauty adds "Yet another example of country folks getting shafted...scrapping the 7:45am news is deplorable and only demonstrates how ignorant and out of touch ABC management really are.
Text to ABC regional Victoria at 7.36am "Cannot believe that they are going to axe the 7.45am News bulletin. It is the one bulletin that many people listen to while getting ready for work or on their way to work. Sometimes it is the only news I hear all day." @ABCMediaComms
Mary calls into ABC Gippsland from a paddock in Neerim. "Is this a tactic being used by @davidnanderson_ ?" "15 mins of decent news, you don't have to be looking at a screen, you can listen while you milk the cows, you can groom the horses which is what I am doing at the moment"
Texts coming in thick and fast to ABC regional Victorian bureaus in response to decision to axe the 0745. "How dare they take the 7.45 am news! We've been listening to it for 70 years! It marks the start of the day" Sara from Warragul.
A stalwart of regional Victorian journalism, @lynnesmith267 has told ABC Gippsland she is 'devastated' about the end of the 0745 bulletin. "It sets us up for the day and is the only long form radio news bulletin of the day. It is iconic."
. @lynnesmith267 says "Look sure, you can tune into your right wing or your left wing media outlets but you know with the ABC you are going to get it straight down the middle and you are going to get the facts. I too would like to see the (audience) data." @abcmelbourne
Bob from Redbank. "Apart from the 7pm television news, the 745am radio bulletin is the only news we catch. It must not go." .... "It is the only news I hear all day, as I drive to work!" Sam in Kyneton.
