I am passionate about accessibility and equity for students. I have been working on a syllabus template that is comprehensive/transparent of expectations but also plugs #UDL as much as possible. Hopefully, this will bring awareness @WesternU!! Details below.... 1/4
The syllabus contains all the information we had before, but also addresses elements that are necessary for online courses. Each section contains checkboxes that can be ticked off or removed if they don't apply. My hope is this process will bring lots of awareness. 2/4
For example: Will sessions be recorded? What about closed-captioning? Group office hours to promote inclusion? What does participation and engagement look like, are options flexible? Will rubrics be used? How will community building occur? 3/4
I believe strongly that transparency, consistency, and accessibility are crucial as we embark on this transition next year. Let's decrease the cognitive load and provide clear expectations so that we reduce student stress/anxiety. Oh, and they will learn more! 4/4
