the story behind the norwegian wood by the beatles ㅡ a thread.
norwegian wood is one of the most iconic songs from rubber soul authored by lennon-mccartney. the lyrics were composed by john (with some adjustments by paul)
the story begins with photographer robert freeman, who worked with the beatles from the years 1963 to 1966 and was the one who took the pictures from the albums of those years, including the rubber soul himself, married in 1960 with a girl named sonny drane
sonny was a german model who grew up in england. she always said that despite this, she was norwegian
because of her husband's friendship with the beatles she naturally became friends with them, especially with john and his wife cyn. they (robert, sonny, john and cyn) were so close friends that they lived close together
during the years 1965 and 1966, john was REALLY close to sonny to the point of being lovers. when robert was not at home and cyn was busy, john would come down to sonny's to be together

(john and sonny (and ringo) 1965 during help! movie)
their affair lasted more than a year and the end of it, despite not having details, was witnessed by cyn herself, who suspected about their romance on the day it ended
cyn said in her book that one day the couple showed up at her and john's house with an angry robert and a crying sonny, both saying they wanted to talk to john privately. the three talked in the living room and then robert and sonny left in silence, weeks later the two divorced
after that, sonny walked away from john, his family and the beatles and john never mentioned her name, even robert about the situation
john talked about the song in a interview in 1970. he confirmed that the song is about a lover but that he didn't remember who she was. i believe he did remember (it's not every day that your secret romance ends in your own home) but that he didn't want to expose the situation

after the situation and sonny's disappearance, robert stopped working with the beatles in 1966 but they have a big respect for the photographer who passed away last year
and when i awoke, i was alone, this bird has flown 🕊
