/ What's going on since morning re @taidrus' involvement in DPF is precisely the reason y well meaning & competent people don't work for the govt. We r quick to judge ppl on our fears, on presumptions, on unstated intentions & potential actions instead of quality of results.
/ As a nation, we have got so used to corruption, nepotism, and ill gotten fortunes of our political leaders, that we now paint everyone with the same brush stroke. Everyone holding a knife is a murderer, so kill all chefs. Everyone with a gun is a terrorist, so kill all guards.
/ Everyone criticising the formation of DPF, plz share your thoughts on how to structure a fund raising vehicle to fuel digital projects for Pakistan in the absence of budget allocation from govt. That's constructive criticism that can aid @taidrus & @kjamali.
/ To me, it sounds like a good idea to raise funds from private sector, bilaterals and multilaterals in a not for profit entity, to fuel Digital Pakistan vision. I can think of numerous organizations that are successfully executing this model.
/ What it requires is a strong member body and a solid governance structure. If you are going to pitch in to capitalize DPF, raise your voice and concerns, otherwise let the funders, putting their money in, decide what the right & adequate governance model is.
/ Section 42 companies do not allow members and directors to be remunerated in ANY shape or form except for perhaps expenses incurred in traveling to its meetings. More importantly, when ultimately winding up, all assets have to be forfeit to the government.
/ So why don't we let the company exist, form a complete board, hire it's complete mgmt team, and deliver some results and then condemn the people if there is any impropriety or corruption. Please know that, no one who wants quick results wants to hand over the money to govt.
/ They'd rather donate the money to a special purpose vehicle managed by a strong, independent board than let that money stay in a bureaucratic parking lot without delivering results or funding projects that die a slow death due to onerous govt procurement and reporting rules.
/ Whether or not Tania should be on the board, will depend on how effectively she is able to handle conflicts & avoid imputed benefits to flow to her. Short of that, I see it as a member of a not for profit with a noble mission roaming the power corridors to aid that mission.
/ Not as a power hungry, corrupt politician, creating a side car vehicle to source & launder ill gotten wealth. May be I see the glass as half full, but I definitely don't want to jump to conclusions & punish a butcher for swinging a knife 🙂
