To highlight the deepening #climatecrisis, I'll be posting some of my pics from @LifeOnEarthPic content library to highlight how climate change impacts communities.

I've taken some pics on this thread for @lutheranworld @worldrenew @ELCA @LuthWorldRelief @oikoumene @ACTAlliance
Across the dry corridor in Central America, rivers, lagoons and lakes are disappearing and agricultural farmland is becoming unproductive. Some farmers in the area haven't had a full crop for ten years, many migrate out of the region. Some land transitions from arid to desert.
The @OIMhonduras and others say there are correlations between climate change and migration. As the traditional subsistence lifestyle becomes untenable, people move to survive, and they often find themselves in impoverished informal settlements on the margins of cities.
In countries that don't offer much protection to the poorest, the marginal areas of cities have become hellish poverty traps and people are vulnerable to gang crime, kidnapping and extortion, and worse. People become desperate to leave, and so migrate out of the country.
Because of climate change there is already failing agriculture and diminishing productivity for farmers and these have severe knock-on consequences.
Droughts are prolonging and when rain comes it's too late or too soon or too much. Rainfall has generally become unpredictable and extremes of drought and flooding are now normal.
Migrants swim in the Pijijiapan river in Chiapas, Mexico. Many Central American migrants come from areas severely affected by drought and climate change, migrant farmers have seen reductions in harvests and many been laid off as farm workers.
