Mental health has become a discussion that's slowly being normalized in Indian community. However, I think that people like to discuss all the "bright topics" while neglecting the more serious issues.
Although a start is a start, it's still VERY important to acknowledge that mental illness and mental health is not something that simply revolves around discussions of "happiness", "positivity", "meditation", "exercise", and "yoga". It's way more than that.
Mental health and mental illness is an UGLY and RAW topic that the media likes to "fluff" up (with good intention, of course). But this approach has mislead people's understandings of just how complex of a topic this really is.
It is so important to educate the public about the true essence of at least the most prominent types of mental illnesses that many tend to silently suffer of, such as depression, anxiety disorder, OCD, and many other complications that may arise from there disorders.
It is important to know about the CLINICAL symptoms of these disorders, and to be informed that these disorders vary from person to person in severity, as well as in how these symptoms may be expressed.
It is important to let people know that someone's loving and happy/positive environment is NOT necessarily enough to "save" their loved one from their suffering. At times, it can actually foster complex emotions of guilt and shame in some people.
we need to let people know that it is OKAY to need help, and that it is OKAY to seek help. The most important thing is to find help from someone who is truly qualified to help. Mental health services are readily available online these days. Use them.
In these times of uncertainity, many centers and qualified professionals are providing support groups and a few free services to those of us who are suffering. If you are reading this and are (or know someone who is) sufferring, kindly seek help.
Educate yourself and everyone around you.
Spread the word. Stay safe. Stay healthy.
Spread the word. Stay safe. Stay healthy.
Many of us suffer from mental health strains simply because we are dealing with someone who needs therapy who is from an older generation that refuses to get help. Be it your parents, your boss or anyone
The new generation is brave enough to talk about mental health openly, they're willing to seek help. But I feel that the main problem is the older generations understanding and accepting mental health issues.
So this is gonna be a big challenge to , basically a revolution.
