1 day into using HEY, it’s super refreshing to use a simplified yet powerful email client!
From the wait to get access, to the onboarding to the actual usage experience, first principles thinking all the way through.
Amazing job @dhh @jasonfried and @basecamp team!

Here are some of my observations on HEY -
1. The Big 3 make it super simple to manage subscriptions (The Feed) and other transactional email (The Paper Trail). @gmail tries to solve this with Social and Promotions, but they don’t match the common use cases of email today.

2. The onboarding was a super seamless series of emails from the HEY team.
One small observation is that the onboarding emails are designed primarily for desktop. However, I’m sure there is a significant % of mobile first users to design for.

3. #Privacy is an area where users need education in today’s software world. HEY does this really well with literally calling out the tracking software the sender is using along with the email.
4. Being able to screen first time senders gives you ability to decide who can send you e-mails, but it gets a bit time consuming to start with. Hope it becomes easier and more useful with time.
5. I think email is not something I need a full “fresh start” in since it’s literally my digital address. I’d like to have my past emails searchable in one place. I’d love to see HEY solve for this. Am I the only one thinking like this?
Very refreshing to see such thought through experience design.
These are some of my observations from 1 day of usage. More coming soon as I continue to use it.
