OK, story-time again. It's about the New York senators who were elected as a Democrat & then allied with the GOP, giving Republicans control of the chamber for years upon years.
In the 2000s, a first group of 4 Dems allied with the GOP.

When one of them, Monserrate, pled guilty to assaulting his girlfriend and chamber moved to expel him, another (Ruben Diaz) said he was "trying to do good by forcing his girlfriend to go to the hospital for treatment."
You may also know Diaz as one of New York's foremost homophobic politicians. Just last year, he said NYC was "controlled by the homosexual community." And he long fought same-sex marriage in the state.
In the 2010s, an entirely NEW group of Democrats allied with the GOP & gave them control. The IDC.

Six of the eight lost in the Dem primaries in 2018, among them Jesse Hamilton (as well as IDC leader Jeff Klein). Among the two who stayed in office: David Carlucci.
Yesterday (with caveat we wait for absentee ballots still):

—Monserrate tried to make a comeback. Trails by 30%.
—Diaz ran for Congress. Is 3rd in primary.
—Hamilton tried to make a comeback. Trails by 43%.
—Carlucci (still a Sen.) ran for Congress. Is a distant 3rd.
