Releasing Music Expectations - A thread: As someone who released music, there’s a hard balance of managing expectations for a song and simply appreciating the results of the release.
An artist obviously hopes to get hundreds of thousands or even millions of views and streams. We all believe in our work but it’s hard not to feel disappointment when a song doesn’t achieve these expectations.
It is definitely discouraging when you have a song that you believe will be a major success and you get the same average result of previous releases. It’s just a feeling of “what more can I do?”
At the end of the day it is just really hard to have a “hit” and reach very large audiences. It’s hard to feel successful. I don’t think a lot of us talk about this.
For me, I’ve been working really hard to change my mindset on this. I’ve learned to take a single message of how the song helped a person, gave them hope, made them cry and say to myself that
THIS IS WHY I DO THIS. THIS IS WHY I WRITE, RECORD, AND RELEASE MUSIC. This is why tons of hours are spent agonizing over recordings, mixes etc.
So thank you. Because all the feedback, the comments, the likes and shares, the encouragement- it’s worth more than a million views and streams (though an actual million would be nice 👍)
I’ve learned to just appreciate that my music reach an audience. No matter how big or small. So THANK YOU.
On that note. If you have bands and artists you like - drop them a line, give a subscribe, a like, a share. If you get anything out of their music, take a second to “give back” - most of us are not making money of the streams and views.
Also - “Accept” is out now on all streaming platforms and the music video is on YouTube here:
