The veterans at the Holyoke Soldier's Home were abandoned before COVID arrived on their doorstep. They were abandoned when politics infilitrated the hiring process for a Director. They were abandoned when the board and staff recommendations for budgets were ignored.
They were abandoned when the Baker admin let ideology drive decisions and not what was in the best interest of those who served us. This tragedy didn't have to reach this scale.
The measure of all services we provide our veterans is simple - are we serving them as well as they served us? The answer provided by the Pearlstein report couldn't be a more clear: No.
