I recently tweetet about how I think Conway has the best NBA references in the rap game right now, so I thought I would do a thread of my favorite references of his. Feel free to add any I might have missed.

Here Conway is referencing that one time D. Wade was bleeding from his top lip after receiving an elbow from Knicks player Gallinari. After the incident, Wade went off for 24 pts in the last quarter and 46 as a total for the game. Miami won the game after being down 15 in the 4th

In this one, Conway is talking about how his friend ran out of money early by referring to Hayward’s leg injury in the 1st quarter of the 1st game of the 2017-2018 NBA season. Not gonna show the injury because it’s disgusting so look it up at your own risk.

In these lines, Conway is saying how him and WSG brought the toughness/griminess to New York, just like Anthony Mason and Charles Oakley brought it to NY when they joined the NY Knicks in the late 80s/early 90s. These 2, especially Oakley were known for always getting into fights

Here Conway is saying how his gun gets dirty after using it, just like Ben Wallace with the Detroit Pistons. Wallace was known for being a hustler and an elite defender. He would do everything necessary to grab the board and protect the rim, doing the dirty work for his team.

In these lines, Conway is referencing how he gets his respect and praise in Boston, just like Kevin “The Big Ticket” Garnett. Garnett was a major franchise player for the Boston Celtics with whom he won a championship in 08. His No. 5 Celtics jersey will be retired next season.

This reference shouldn’t really have to be explained but F it: Conway is referencing AI’s iconic practice rant in which he fired back after being criticized for missing practice. Conway saying that his shooter missing practice but is still winning and performing, just like AI.

Here Conway is explaining how rappers are focusing on negative topics and beefs in their raps, and taking the love out the game, just like Kelly Olynyk took Kevin Love out of the game when he dislocated his shoulder in what seemed like intentional harm, even to Kevin Love.

This is a prime example of clever word play. Conway is saying he is gonna load his guns and “get to clippin’ n***as” just like Doc Rivers, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, who are members of the Los Angeles Clippers. Only Doc Rivers remains on the team to this day.

In these lines, Conway is saying that he’s terrorizing the game with his .45 handgun on him, just like Donovan “Spider” Mitchell, who is a player for the Utah Jazz and wears the number 45 jersey. Mitchell almost won ROTY in 2018 but lost to Ben Simmons.

Again, smart lines by Conway. He is saying that he is always around with the pump shotgun on him, just like former NBA player and coach Dee Brown, who had a signature Reebok shoe, named Reebok Pump Dee Brown

This one isn’t really that smart or impressive but Im still including it because Kyrie my favorite NBA player. Conway is referencing that one time Kyrie told a fan to suck his d*ck when the fan asked “Where’s LeBron?” shortly after Kyrie was traded to the Celtics as he requested.

BONUS

This one is also not the smartest reference. Im just including it as paying homage to one of the greatest to ever touch a basketball. It feels wrong doing anything NBA-related without mentioning Kobe.
