I have inattentive-type ADHD; I want to share a few surprising ways it affects my everyday.
Keep in mind we put names on personal state that doesn't conform to society's constructs and what I share is how I integrate myself w how my world works around me. 1/

I miss words in conversations I'm in.
This was something I noticed in college - when I was legitimately trying to pay attention to a lecture I was frustrated how I missed entire words pertinent to a conversation. The reason for this? 2/

Most brains knows how to prioritize distractions. People with ADHD will register all sounds around them equally and must manually prioritize what to pay attention to.
In conversations, I register all other background noises the same as the person who is speaking to me. 3/

I don't think linearly. Most people writing lists or code or whatever often start from the beginning and sequentially process work to finish.

I first noticed non-linear processing in primary school starting with addition in math - instead of adding a column of numbers from top to bottom I would group a column in 10s first.
Pair programming showed me to see how others think and the benefit in diversity of thought. 5/

"Object Permeance"
A sense of object permanence is developed for most at a young age. I keep my veggies in my fridge sparse in see-through drawers so I don't forget I have them. It's why I write lists, tweet code observations, etc. 6/

I'm not particularly ashamed about talking about and I think talking about ADHD is something that should be normalized.
These aren't necessarily debilitating experiences - these are just ways I learn to function with the rest of the world & it's made my life a lot easier

Lastly - ADHD in a pandemic is a pain in the ass.
It helps to establish a routine. I keep my place spotless so I can't procrastinate with cleaning sessions, I take a quick cold shower in the morning, drink coffee, and go on 2 short walks a day, exercise 1 hour etc 8/

If you have ADHD, multitasking might be your best bet to keeping up with your obligations. Noticed this when I was a waitress, but I made far less mistakes with more tables than less tables. Alright, thanks for letting me share love ya'll
