People are up in arms about the decision to ban the flag, and a lot of people are directing that at Bubba specifically.

If you're at the track you're constantly seeing people you are angry, defiant, and want to send a message to the sport in a bunch of different ways.

Again, with context, if you hear this report you're going to react quickly, take it first and foremost as a threat, and investigate it to find out the truth.

I don't know if it was right to make it public before an investigation concluded, but news travels fast and if they didn't announce we'd still have found out about this except we'd be hearing it from third parties and the narrative would be that Nascar allowed a threat to happen
People should be mad at the protestors, the people harassing Bubba on Twitter, and the asshole flying the plane for creating this tense environment that forced Nascar to make extremely quick snap decisions because at that point the idea of a hate crime is extremely plausible
Let me end with an analogy.
There's a bunch of pro-gun open carry protestors marching through your city. There's counter protestors too. Groups have been getting in each other's face for a week. All of a sudden you hear a bunch of loud bangs go off and people start running.

No, it won't be and you're lying if you say otherwise. You'd be constantly amped up for days and you'd be expecting something to happen, and those bangs would be what you were expecting. You'd call 911.

The police (assume truthfully) went and investigate the noise and determined that it was just someone setting off fireworks.

Now imagine having people tell you that you were wrong to think that they were gunshots, or that you maliciously told someone to go off and light fireworks because you wanted to create a scare

If you're a person who can't understand the context of this situation and still has to try to spin it in a way to make it look like a publicity stunt then shut the fuck up and get the fuck out.
