She’s at it again. Jeanne Ives learned this technique from the best. Donald Trump. And the GOP.

She’s lying again - this time she’s saying Sean Casten voted to give himself $5M of your money. It’s a lie. She knows it. You know it. Most of her followers know it.

So why does she do it?

There are three reasons:

1 - It’s easy to create and spread lies. She can do it in just a few seconds. It takes a lot more time to prove them wrong with facts and logic. What she knows is that it wastes our time.

2 - It gets her followers excited. Even if they know it’s false, they get excited because they can attack their opponents, and it starts a fight between her followers and us.

3 - Most dangerous in a democracy - it destroys the very idea that there are facts and truth. Her followers can just say “well, everybody lies, so I’m going to follow Ives because she’s on my side.”

When the truth is destroyed, there is only the leader and what the leader says. It’s the lesson of Orwell’s “1984.” It’s the lesson shown by Hitler, Mussolini, Kim Jong Un, Mao, Stalin. What we never expected was that American politicians would be using that tactic on us.

So what can we do? Don’t bother fighting with her supporters. Don’t bother trying to play whack-a-mole with every lie she spouts, because she will keep doing it, faster than you can prove them wrong.

What we have to do is inoculate the voters in this district to the tactic. We have to educate them that this is how she plans to win, and that it’s wrong. Point out to people what she’s doing, not the lie itself.

By the way, this will absolutely and immediately get you blocked on her social media accounts, so be prepared. She cannot stand someone telling her followers the tactics she’s using, because they might start to doubt what she’s saying and why.

We also need to get knowledge of her tactics spread widely - especially to media that will influence voters. This means letters to the editor. This means getting newspapers to endorse Rep. Casten, because Ives lies, and that alone makes her unfit for office.

Ideally, in a perfect world, interviewers and moderators should question her about her tactic - why do you lie, why do you spread lies as a campaign tactic to misinform voters?
