This response by @FureyAndrew is infuriating. The question by @stjohnsbot was misleading. The committee DID NOT recommend min wage be attached to CPI,the employer rep did.I sat on the committee as the employee rep. There was no consensus. Here are my recommendations: https://twitter.com/NTVNewsNL/status/1275557911444553731

The employer recommendations did not consider marginalized folks.I gathered that information for the report based on submissions to the committee by community groups & gov. dept. presentations. This was part of our terms of reference which we were told to follow. #nlgenderpoli
The employer recommendations were a repetition of old business tropes that had no concrete references. @15andFairnessNL and @NLFL_labour gave the committee ample evidence based research and recent examples debunking the employee recommendations, which I included in the report.
If you're wondering, the business groups are flipping out over a 75 cent an hour increase in minimum wage in 2020. This is what they mean when they say that they weren't listened to. Take that as you will. https://www.cfib-fcei.ca/en/tools-resources/newfoundland-and-labrador-minimum-wage#:~:text=Newfoundland%20and%20Labrador's%20minimum%20wage,1.5%20times%20the%20minimum%20wage.
Furey says he wasn't privy to the conversations between gov. and the committee's work. If you're running for leader you should be aware of the previous work done by your party on min wage, an issue that affects many NLers. Public link to the report here:

@votejohnabbott mentioned moving to a $15 min wage over time. I would like to know how much time. When the $15 and fairness campaign was launched, it was close to a living wage. We are beyond that now and cannot wait much longer.
I know Furey is extremely popular & people are blindly following him. Remember when we worshiped Danny? We got Muskrat Falls. Please think critically & scrutinize everything both candidates are saying and be vocal about that.Don't let the business elites run our province once more.
I should also note that as a fairly left leaning NDP supporter, I usually do not follow the leadership races of the other parties so closely. However, when things that negatively affect our most marginalized population are part of the platform, I cannot stay quiet.
I am trying to put together an article for the @IndependentNL about the committee experience but I get so worked up about it when I try. It was such a waste of time & for business groups to say that they weren't listened to is disgraceful.
The wealthy people in this province silence the most vulnerable while also being seen as charitable. It's honestly wild. I don't know how we can change the discourse but it isn't businesses that keep the economy going, it's the workers. I wish they knew the power they have.
Yes,employers want to save some coin by keeping min wage low but I believe the biggest reason is that they know underpaid and exhausted workers do not have time or energy to push back. They are too busy getting by.We need to fight alongside and for low wage workers. Who's with me?
Ignore the typos that I most definitely did not catch(as always) before tweeting.
