I have been invited to 8 task forces/committees regarding covid/racism/equity since April.
3 of the 8 are black-led.
Those 3 are the only ones that even offered a gesture of valuing my time, insight, and contribution beyond a thank you.
...during this economic crisis.

And the issue is not that I want money. It’s that white-led orgs don’t see the problem of constantly asking Black and Brown folks to volunteer our time to stuff they are not truly invested in changing.
Racial equity will not be solved on a temporary task force of volunteer consultants.
Such committees uphold some of the very toxic power structures that need to be addressed.

Equity will require that many directors, deans, ED, Board/Dept Chairs remove themselves from power, and folks are not ready or willing to do that.
So orgs must first admit that equity is not what they really want.
Grace/mercy perhaps.
Maybe increased diversity and inclusion.
But I don’t think many orgs are ready for equity or equipped structurally or culturally to sustain it.

One resource from the arts that is always helpful is the Continuum on Becoming an Anti-Racist Org.
A lot of orgs want to be a 6 right now, but have a 2/3 energy.
