Colombia has been one of the worst advocates for women's football and I've never entirely understood their interested in holding the biggest women's football tournament.

Here's a thread of some reality of women's football in Colombia: https://twitter.com/battledinosaur/status/1275766136533995520
The women's professional league in Colombia has only been active for 3 years.

And because the league has no sponsor, the federation and clubs have hinted that the league will no go forward this 2020 season because of lack of funding to support their women's teams
In 2018 Athletico Huila won the Copa Libertadores (they are one of the clubs who will not participate in the 2020 season due to financial reasons)

Their 2018 prize money went directly to their male counterparts to pay off outstanding debts.
There have been calls from the players to further grow women's football in the country, but there has been no active interest except for this bid to host the WC.

Daniela Montoya highlighted the lack of professionalism, starting with the fact that the league only lasts 3 months
President of Deportes Tolima said this in 2019

"It's going badly, it doesn't give anything, not economically.

"Apart from the problems you get with women, they're more addicted to alcohol than men. Apart from that, it's a tremendous lesbian breeding ground."
National team players express their excitement to host a WC to raise standards:
“It’s not a secret that in Colombia, the running of women’s football needs to be much better. We’re missing a structured league, a long term plan and people in charge that care about women’s football”
