The lack of humanity from the extremes of the left,as well as the extremes of the right, is terrifying to me. Especially when, the extremes of the left are going mainstream in a way the right couldn’t manage.
I watch people I love give up more&more of their empathy in what they see as a quest for justice. It has made them suspicious of anyone who even asks questions and hostile to anyone who wants to talk the ideas through instead of just accept them. Disagreement is seen as betrayal
If you don’t fall exactly in line with every mantra,every assertion&every belief you must be a bad person who is working against them.If you think it’s unacceptable to start threatening or denigrating someone for their different opinion you become the enemy, too
The threats of violence and dehumanisation directed at “terfs” is really part of a much larger pattern in which people who believe themselves to be the only moral point on the map are behaving in an increasingly erratic, cruel and sociopathic set of ways.
Of course women bear the brunt of that and we do have to fight to retain legal rights that keep us safer, but society more generally looks like it is becoming the frog slowly boiling in water and we need to work out how to each do our part to help turn off the heat.
