Electricity bill in Maha is going to give heartache to the people. We were paying the monthly bills (varying from 5 to 7k, which were sent without meter readings). Now, the bill has come to 38k, deducting the payments already made. Even a closed flat in our bldg got 11k bill.
I understand that the consumption has been higher due to the lockdown, but the electricity bill amounts for every flat is more than double, & in some cases triple, compared to last summer months. Our society is going to raise a complaint, but I think first we need to pay up.
Hearing similar stories from friends. What's going on @CMOMaharashtra @OfficeofUT ? Which middle class household gets 50-60k electricity bill in three months? Mess up or loot, which one is it? https://twitter.com/semubhatt/status/1275774278420627456?s=19
So, on one hand, we have Delhi, where the govt coffers are emptied to give free electricity to those, who can afford to pay. On the other hand, we have Maharashtra, which seems to be trying to milk the lockdown by charging inexplicably high electricity bills from the commoners.
Dear @Dev_Fadnavis @BJP4Maharashtra , pls look into this. I have heard from family, friends and my society, but I am sure this is the case for most. https://twitter.com/semubhatt/status/1275776865924452352?s=19
I am the last person who would expect any freebies from the govt. But to hike rates when the ppl have been pushed into a lockdown, and are staring at an uncertain financial future, takes special insensitivity. https://twitter.com/RatnaniHitesh/status/1275780429778259968?s=19

Good point. If they don't listen, ppl should mass boycott payment. Let them cut the electricity connection of every home in the state. https://twitter.com/ron20078/status/1275693427880071168?s=19
Commoners need @BJP4Maharashtra 's support against the insensitive step of power tariff hike during the pandemic. Hope the state BJP won't disappoint; esp as helping ppl on this issue will generate a lot of goodwill for the party. @AmitShah @narendramodi https://twitter.com/semubhatt/status/1275778699321892864?s=19

Is this why the middle class families in the state have gotten electricity bills that only rich could afford to pay? Especially during the pandemic when many have lost work or taken salary cuts! #NoShame

Look at the bill history over the past year, and the current month's bill. #MahaExcessElectricityBilling https://twitter.com/snakeyesV1/status/1275799695286128640?s=19
I got to know that in Maha, ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ž๐ฅ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฒ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”% - on total of energy charge + fixed charge + wheeling charge + fuel adjustment charge. The amount of money that goes into taxes & duties that we don't even notice...
While @NitinRaut_INC has said that the govt will let ppl pay the exorbitant electricity bills in installments, I have not come across any official order in this regards. The prominent electricity cos don't seem to be even aware of this installments bit.
In Jan, @NitinRaut_INC had said that it isn't binding on govt to accept proposed tariff hike, & that domestic consumers will get power at current rate. But now that tariff is hiked, at a time when ppl face uncertain financial future, he is blaming MERC.
https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/other-states/mva-govt-may-not-push-for-tariff-hike-by-mahavitaran/article30590185.ece
On April 29, @NitinRaut_INC said that "electricity rates have been reduced by average 7%" & "residential consumers will see a reduction by 5% in their electricity bills." Was minister not aware of the hike from Apr 1, & hence was talking about reduction?

March 31st article stating no tariff hike for next five years, and instead 7-8% tariff cut. From 1st April, the tariff was hiked. Why has @NitinRaut_INC tried to misguide ppl by stating that the domestic consumers won't have to pay higher tariff? https://www.freepressjournal.in/business/no-tariff-hike-for-next-five-years-7-to-8-power-tariff-cut-proposed-in-state
Re above articles, Maha govt had clearly said that the proposed electricity tariff hike is not binding on govt. The State govt had repeatedly promised reduced tariff, last time in April end. But in reality, screwed the ppl with higher tariff & exorbitant bills during pandemic.
Dear @OfficeofUT , are we to believe that your minister was clueless about tariff hike & hence kept on making false promises? Btw, how do you justify the insensitive move to burden already troubled ppl with higher tariff? https://twitter.com/semubhatt/status/1276125845795385344?s=20
