I've seen a lot of people in Discord servers ask: "What is Twitch Blackout?", so here's why your favorite streamer is or isn't live today: (a thread)
The past few days a lot of people in the gaming industry have been outted for harassing, abusing and manipulating others, basically using their power to get what they want. This isn't just mentally, we're also talking about sexually harassing/abusing their victims.
Twitch put out a pretty empty message saying they take the accusations extremely seriously and that would actively look into the accounts concerning people that were outted. This is just one big empty message. They can say what they want, in the past they've made it pretty clear
that they won't be doing anything at all if the streamer/partner/whatever makes them enough money. By putting out this statement they didn't only let down the victims, but also just straight up lied.
When harassment by partners was brought up during a meeting last year @eshear basically replied with "oh boys will be boys", I can't remember his exact words and I also can't seem the find the source anymore, but that's basically what it came down to.
So what are we protesting against today, whether it's by streaming and spreading awareness on Twitch or by not streaming and spreading awareness on other socials?
We're protesting against Twitch allowing partners/streamers to still freely use their platform after being outted even when the proof has been put right in front of their noses and claim that they're working on it. Thank you for reading.
